Beingness Through Art
“‘Who am I?’ we ask. And what do we find beyond the perception of mind?”
Music is one of my biggest passions. I started writing songs at 14, and it's been a goal of mine to record something ever since. Now I’ve achieved that goal!
I feel such joy and connection sharing this. Art connects us through its beauty and expression… a pointing toward the divine. We can try to understand it or explain it, but like the essence of life itself, we probably never will. When I sing or write, I disappear. The experience of time unravels. We’ve all felt this in some way when we are fully present with who or what we love.
I started with this song as my first to record because it represents this era of my life. I’ve been shifting away from resisting what is and moving toward a flowing with and welcoming of life as it is. A recognition that there is already beauty in what is and less concern with what life looks like, which paradoxically has resulted in a life that feels better where I’ve felt freedom to do things I’ve always wanted to do but never have.
One of my mentors once shared a story about a work of art that struck her. The painting was of a raggedy man, but there was something in it that simultaneously captured the natural beauty in everything. There was this reality of the surface level despair to it and yet the beauty that shone through it. This is what I’ve been more in touch with… seeing the beauty, the love, that’s already there underneath everything.
That is the essence of this song.
I’m beyond grateful for my producer and sound engineer Eric Bogacz. I learned while working with this humble guy that he’s a Grammy Award-winning engineer. His patience, collaboration, and mastery have me so inspired.
Whether you've been my fan for half a lifetime or just met me, I’m thankful for our connection. Perhaps there has never not been a connection and it’s things like beauty and art that sprinkle tastes of that into our experience to help us remember. The remembrance that underlying who or what we are beyond the perception of our limited human senses is this indescribable presence or beingness. The recognition that everything emerges from and ultimately dissolves back into nothing.
This is “Unfolding” - a love song to everything and nothing.
